Wartime Open Weekend Poster

Category

My brief was to design promotional posters for the Hut 9 Preservation Group’s Wartime Open Weekend, held at Island Farm, Bridgend on Saturday 20th April 2024. The brief was to produce engaging and historically respectful visuals that would promote the event to the public, appeal to a wide audience, and reflect the historical significance of the site during WWII.

Concept

Two poster designs were created, each offering a distinct visual style:

The first design used a striking photographic portrait of a woman in period military attire. The strong profile pose, combined with clean, minimal typography, created a bold and contemporary look while maintaining a clear connection to the wartime theme.

The second design took a vintage illustration approach, featuring a stylised figure inspired by wartime posters. This design leaned into heritage aesthetics, using muted tones and clean vector illustration to evoke a sense of nostalgia and authenticity.

Execution

Typography was kept simple and authoritative, with a clear hierarchy to highlight the event title, date, and location. Both posters were designed for print and digital use, ensuring they worked effectively for public display, social media promotion, and website banners. The combination of photographic and illustrated styles provided versatility for different promotional contexts while maintaining a cohesive event identity.

Outcome

The posters successfully generated interest and raised awareness of the event within the community. Their strong visual impact and clear messaging helped support the Hut 9 Preservation Group’s mission to educate and engage the public with local wartime history, while promoting attendance at the open weekend.
